JACKSON, Mississippi (AP) -- Paul Davis, a singer and songwriter whose soft rock hit "I Go Crazy" stayed on the charts for months after its release in 1977, died Tuesday. He was 60.
Davis died of a heart attack at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, the city where he grew up, cousin James Edwards said.
Davis' other popular hits included "65 Love Affair;" "You're Still New To Me," a country duet with Marie Osmond; and "Ride 'Em Cowboy."
His 1977 album "Singer of Songs -- Teller of Tales" featured the ballad "I Go Crazy." The song slowly climbed the charts, peaking at No. 7 eight months after its release, according to Billboard's Web site. The song stayed in the Top 100 for 40 weeks, according to Billboard -- a record at the time for the magazine's Hot 100 chart. The mark has since been surpassed many times; the current record holder is LeAnn Rimes' "How Do I Live," which stayed on the Hot 100 for 69 weeks.
Davis spent part of his early career in Jackson at Malaco Records, company President Tommy Couch said.
Couch said Davis arrived at Malaco with his writing partner, George Soule, around 1968.
After Davis left Jackson, he moved to New York, Nashville and then back to Meridian, Couch said.
Edwards said his cousin had returned to Mississippi to retire.

Yea! I do that sometimes, reach back and come up with some good times from the past. I had a feeling a week or two ago about the laugh in crew and that “you can bet your bippy” just naturally came out. OH yea! I’ve licked many a page of green stamps and went many aday to the causeway during a gas war and got 18 or 19 cent a gallon. People look kinda funny at me when I tell them I remember when the middle of Springhill avenue had trolley rail tracks instead of medians and bricks on the street. These people must have an aweful memory because I don’t consider my self that old, I’m just hitting my prime and have a fairly good memory,I think?? I did like"I go crazy” also artist like Pasty kline, shep wooley and remember “RAW HIDE”? What ever happened to that young man they use to have on there,Clint Eastwood ? That wasn’t his picture on the news, was it ? NAW ,it must have been his daddy.

Speaking of folks dying, I think it was Carl that used the phrase “you bet your sweet bippy”. I heard Dick Martin died over the weekend at 81 years old. If you remember watching Laugh-in then you are at least my age of S & H greenstamps and 33 cents a gallon bamabob…

Like I said a while back,It’s getting scary when you know more people in the grave yard than you do alive and walking around.May be the reason for such a high burn out rate for those doctors and nurses who care for terminally ill patients. I gotta get me a circle of younger friends!!
