Hybrids: All Hype or Hip?

As the cost of gas continues to climb many are turning to the fuel friendly vehicles and car dealerships say they're going fast!

Sonscherraye Gowder says she's in the market for a new car. But not just any car....a car that will save a lot of gas! "The fact that gas is almost four dollars a gallon has me thinking about ways to cut my cost,"Said Gowder. Gem Bertone with the Eastern Shore Toyota says Gowder isn't the only one."Everytime we see the gas prices go up we see more people coming through our showroom looking for those cars. In fact today we sold out of our Prius',"Said Bertone.
So what's the hybrid hype all about? Bertone says it not only uses gas...but also electricity. According to the dealership, everytime you hit the brakes, the gasoline engine switches off and you charge the batteries, which optimizes your fuel mileage."Once you start driving one you just wonder why all cars aren't made that way, cause when you stop at a red light or you stop somewhere you're not using any fuel at all, "Said Bertone. Eastern Shore Toyota says the Prius gets almost fifty miles per gallon, which qualifies it as a low emission vehicle.
Eastern Shore Toyota in Daphne says they've sold out of the Prius, but they just started a waiting list today for the new ones coming in. They say they still have several other Hybrid models in stock.

No, I missed that, but that’s great news! Thanks for telling me. As for raising the gas prices, I’ve already modified my driving habits drastically, but feel I can cut down even further if I have to.

Shubunkin, I take it you didn’t see that piece about two weeks ago on a SUV a company modified with over the counter parts that got 125 mpg. They were taking it to Europe for a car show to try to sell it to the car companies over there. I haven’t heard anything since then but it shows it can be done on a gas guzzler,but that wouldn’t stop the price of gas going up,as you use half as much gas they’ll just charge twice as much

I wonder if anyone will start altering gasoline vehicles to run on electricity. It would be nice, since I probably can’t get rid of my gas guzzler.

Hybrids and all electric automobiles are the wave of the future and long over due! Every one should read the news piece on the new car called TELSA. This car gets 225 miles on a charge,thats getting real close to what a gas burner gets on a tank of gas and at about a tenth of the cost of gas! But the price is still too high for the average working person to purchase one of these,but it would drop in price rapidly in mass production assembly lines. Boy,wouldn’t that knock the bottom out the oil money buckets.
