Clinton Davis and his wife have been homeless for the past two years. They've been sleeping in their beat-up pick-up truck or in a tent out in the backwoods of Baldwin County.

"Last night was rough," says Davis. "It was so cold, we had blankets but it wasn't enough. Sometimes you just feel like dying because the pain of the cold is so bad. It rips and cuts right through you."

Temperatures Thursday morning are expected to plunge into the teens across much of the Gulf Coast. Davis has been watching the weather forecast closely.

"Our truck is so old, there's no heater," says Davis. "And the tent is even colder than inside the truck. We just cuddle together and try and stay warm and say a prayer and hope for the best."

Davis and his wife stopped by Catholic Social Services in Robertsdale hoping to get some help.

"Homeless people and cold weather are a big problem here," says Michelle Prockup, director of the non-profit organization. "We don't have a shelter in Baldwin County for the homeless."

Prockup and employees at a local bank gave the couple warm jackets, gloves and coats. Catholic Social Services also found them a motel room to stay warm in tonight.

Thanks for the last comment, I am glad someone else besides me see where I am coming from. I dont mean to sound so harsh but it is what it is.

The couple, as they appeared on tv, seem to be in decent emotional and physical shape, (and no I do not know them personally) I don’t think he would have any problem getting a job that pays daily. They have been homeless for 2 years because they want to be!! I have to agree with Kyless on this, no I’m not heartless, but if you can get it for free why work. As for meamerican, judging by his posts, he pretty much has something to say about everything right or wrong! Brush him off.

And another thing if a family member is willing to say they have never asked them for anything, then that should really make you wonder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because if I am homeless and have nothing, I will ask anybody comes my way for help. Please wake up and stop being in denial.

People like you will always make homeless people stay HOMELESS. Backgound checks is one thing but when you seek employment on a daily basis they dont do back ground checks on labor finders job. I just talked to the G.M. over the labor finders in Pascagoula Ms. and I was tole by them, that They put homeless people to work all day long and at the end of the day they get they pay and be back on the next day for more work, so I dont want to hear nothing about no background checks keeping them from working. People like you get them being HOMELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You keep on contributing to Homeless and after a while you will see after all you have done for them and given them, when its all said and done they still going to be homeless.

Thanks for the support Nature Scout.  The company I work for was hiring and we had a homeless man come in to fill out an app. He was living in his car. Since, we do thorough background check, as most companies do, my boss chose not to hire him. It is not that easy to get a job. Regardless, all I was doing is trying to help and I never asked for comments from people like the ones that have posted here. If it were them or someone in their family I am sure they would not be on here posting things like that. But anyway, I spoke with Catholic Social Services and due to the privacy act, they could not give me any info on the couple. But I did speak to a relative and they shined the light on the situation for me. The couple have really had it rough and not one time have they asked for “FREE BEES”. They didn’t go to the news asking for help. Someone approached them to do the story. So, as the saying goes, if you don’t have anything nice to say, say nothing.  Thanks again for your support NS!

Homeless People are only homeless because thats the life they have chosen to live. Freebe’s have spoiled our homeless people.  I do not understand a person being homeless when their are jobs that pay by the day. If you are in good stable mind and your body is in fairly good shape, then go out an seek work instead of seeking FREE BEES.  People are tired of seeing you all on the side of the road holding up a sign I WILL WORK FOR FOOD, in the same token put the sign down and go find a pay by the day work and you can make it off of that, until you can do better. Some of the homeless people dont wont to do better because they are a custom to that kind of living. And body sleeping in a car for 2 years and been homeless for 2 years, NEED TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have no moral support for anybody that say they are homeless and I have to get out of my bed in the freezing cold and in the hottest days and go to work because thats what it takes for me to make a living. SORRY

Then they should learn to speak Spanish. That way none of the credentials you listed are required in Baldwin County.

MeAmerican(are you sure?) Nobody asked for your Lip.  Go write your own blog if that’s what you need to do.  Camaysha asked for help and I’d expect a decent American not to interfere with a kind act no matter who it is going to.
Camaysha I would ask the Catholic Social Services if they have anyway to get a hold of them.
LoneWolf Every application also asks for a name, address, phone#, job references and history.  Usually homeless means that at least the address and phone# are missing.  That makes it pretty hard to fill out the paperwork and usually means the employer just wont hire you.  Going long periods of time without a work history and looking like you are homeless also does not help.
Everyone in this world relys on the gifts of others there is no such thing as a self-made anything and a kind act rarely creates need.

It’s one thing to have a cold heart but to snap at me because I wanted to help someone in need is another. Have you ever thought that when you are homeless it’s not that easy to “just out and get a job”. I have seen it first hand.....someone that is homeless come in for a job interview and that will be the last person an employer will hire. I have a degree and it took me a month to find a job. They didn’t come asking for help so why attack them or me? I just offered a heater and maybe some blankets. And by the way, I do have a convertor so they could actually plug the heater into a cigarette lighter. And you bet that I’d love to give them a steak if I had the chance.  And why bring alcohol and “smokes” in this? Grow up!

Living in a truck for two years? Something isn’t right here. Every store front you pass has “Help Wanted” signs posted. Seems like 2 years is plenty enough time to fill out an application of two.
