20-year-old Joshua Walker was shot during the attempted burglary on Glenn Avenue just before six o'clock this morning (Saturday).
23-year-old Allen Davis, Walker's cousin, was arrested this afternoon (Saturday). Authorities say the two men tried to burglarize a home on Glenn Avenue.
Police say Davis and Walker were armed when they broke in the home. They say a man living in the house, Carlos Lopez, got into a scuffle with the invaders and that shots were fired, hitting Walker in the chest and Lopez in the arm. Police say Davis drove Walker to Mobile Infirmary where he later died.
Lopez was treated for his injuries at USA Medical Center and says he didn't want to let the suspects have their way."I remember I opened the door and two guys tried to come inside, but I didn't give them a chance to get through,"Said Lopez.
While neighbors in the area plan to be more cautious."I'm not really scared, I just take precautions ,you know. Put some more burglar bars up,"Said Vivian Smith.
Police say as they try to piece together what exactly happened, they're working with the District Attorney's office to determine if more charges should be filed.
Allen Davis is charged with 1st degree burglary and is being held in Mobile Metro Jail.
