Hillsdale Middle School in Mobile has a new look!
Thursday, dozens of volunteers from different companies and organizations rolled up their sleeves to give the school a makeover.
When students return from spring break, they will instantly notice the new trees, flowers, and other landscaping features.
Some volunteers said the school hasn't had any real improvements in several years.
With the Mobile County Public School System facing financial problems, the volunteers decided to clean the school up themselves instead of ask for help.
"We just felt like we could get it done much faster and do a much better job at it than waiting for the school system to come and do it so we got a group together and we received grants from Neighborworks and DASH and Regions and we just came out and did the work ourselves," said Hillsdale Community leader Gary Hart.
There's another reason for all the sprucing up around Hillsdale Middle School.
Next month, former president of the United States Jimmy Carter will be the school's guest of honor.
If you're a non-profit or charitable organization that is interested in having some volunteer support for thier organization, the Roberts Brothers Community Events team is available to assist you. For more information, contact Coordinator Stephanie Knight at 251-344-9220.
