The Sheriff's Office says Tyrone Walker walked into the Shell Station in Spanish Fort around 1:45 a.m. Friday. He pointed a gun at the cashier and demanded money. Investigators say he left with the cash and took off in a Mercury Cougar.
The Sheriff's Office says Deputy Matt Morrison spotted the car near Bay Minette on Highway 31. He tried to pull the car over, but the driver did not stop. Bay Minette Police Officers put out spike strips. The car hit the strips and wrecked in a ditch. Walker got out of the car with a gun in his hand, but accidentally dropped it, seconds before deputies fired on him. Walker hopped over a guard rail, but was caught a short time later.
Walker has been charged with robbery, giving false information, attempting to elude police, and reckless endangerment.
