"For the most part we do fairly well." Restaurant manager Bob Russo is looking now for his summer staff. "Ruby Tuesday offers a good start up package we have day one benefits, so we find it a little easier to get employees than most do."
There is competition. The demand for help is high, but sometimes, the supply is lacking.
"Locals don't like this place." Assistant Manager Jarrod White says smaller businesses have a tougher time. "Wal-Mart, Target really takes a lot of the employees."
When it comes to a summer job, it doesn't matter if it's at the beach or in your home town. It all comes down to the dollars.
"The cost of living is a lot higher than normal places. With this job you could probably make it if you could get a cheap apartment. Cheap housing on the island, it's so hard to find," says White.
The summer search for employees is underway. "We look forward to all the college students who come down and want to spend the summer here. Have good employment make good money over the summer while they're here," says Russo.
Living and working at the beach maybe easier than you think.
While Alabama's unemployment rate is one of the lowest in the country, Baldwin County's unemployment rate is even lower at 2 point 9 percent making the search for employees even harder.
