Tim and Sharon Helveston lost their daughter Wendy Sullivan almost five years ago when a drunk driver killed her and her unborn child while Sullivan was on her way to work at Providence Hospital.
Mr. Helveston says he and his wife will never get over the loss and are reminded when they look at the two daughters Sullivan left behind. He warns those who may try to take their chances after a few drinks about the consequences, "You don't know how much grief and sorrow you cause families, " Said Helveston.
Marie Stringfellow with Operation 40 Proof says the campaign hopes to warn others before it is too late. With 7 cars on display across Mobile and Baldwin Counties, donated by families of drunk driver accident victims, the display is to show others what could happen if you decide to drink and drive.
"This time of the year we want everyone to be aware so that everybody's family can enjoy their holiday season and not have it taken away from them,"Said Stringfellow.
Stringfellow says the campaign has been active for the past 17 years during the 40 days between Thanksgiving until after the New Year. She says the campaign also offers free towing service to those who may need it this holiday season. The hotline for the service is available 24 hours a day until after the New Year--- no questions asked at 251-460-8999.
