Georgia Pacific announced Monday that it will purchase Brewton's Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation for $355 million. News 5 has learned all 500 employees at the Brewton plant will have to reapply for their jobs under the new company. And there's no guaruntee they will be rehired.GP is offering a series of Job Fairs to anyone interested in employment opportunities at the Brewton mill. They will be held August 15,16, 22 and 23 at the Brewton Community Center at 1010B Douglas Avenue. There will be three sessions each day at 9:00 a.m., 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. GP will present information on the terms and conditions of employment including wages, benefits and work processes.
Applicants for salaried positions can submit their resumes to brewton@gapac.com, or bring them to the Job Fair. Applicants for hourly positions may apply online through the Alabama Career Center or call 251.867.4376
