NEW YORK (AP) - An announcement is expected shortly from New
York Governor Eliot Spitzer -- after a published report linking him
to a prostitution ring.
The New York Times reports that Spitzer has told senior advisers
of his involvement with the ring. The Democrat is scheduled to make
an announcement in New York.
Spitzer, who is 48, is married and has three daughters.
There are no details about the prostitution ring. But last week,
federal prosecutors in Manhattan filed conspiracy charges against
four people, accusing them of running a prostitution ring that
charged wealthy clients in Europe and the U.S. thousands of dollars
for prostitutes.
Spitzer, who served as the state's attorney general, has built
his political legacy on rooting out corruption. He waged several
headline-making battles with Wall Street. Time magazine labeled him
"Crusader of the Year."
