MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - Governor Riley today appointed Ronald
Abernathy as acting Sheriff of Tuscaloosa County. He replaces Ted
Sexton who resigned this week to take a post with the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security.
Abernathy has served as chief deputy in the office since 1999
and was named Tuscaloosa County Officer of the Year in 2006.
The University of Alabama graduate will serve as sheriff for one
year.
Abernathy's appointment is effective immediately.
