Gas prices have dropped 28-cents over the last month. According to AAA, the national average for a gallon of regular unleaded is $2.77. Gas is even cheaper along the Gulf Coast -- Biloxi/Gulport/Pascagoula: $2.77, Mobile: $2.66, Pensacola: $2.71.
Trilby Lundberg says don't expect it to continue. Lundberg says the recent drop in prices will encourage consumers to drive more, which will increase demand. She also says the longer daylight-saving time, which Congress extended until early November, will impact prices. Drivers now have an extra few weeks of longer daylight to guzzle up gas.
But the Energy Department disagrees. Last week, it said gas prices will continue sliding through the end of the year, reaching $2.64 in December. If that happens, gas prices would be nearly 60-cents cheaper than the peak of $3.22 in May.
