A 19-year old Pace mother remained in jail Monday on felony child neglect charges. A Santa Rosa County judge set bond at 100-thousand dollars for Erin Markes Saturday, a day after she was arrested. Sheriff's investigators say they found Markes' four-year old boy severely malnourished and dehydrated. The boy also had bed sores and weighed only ten pounds. The child's body temperature was 91 degrees. 98.6 is normal.

"It's unbelievable," says Pace resident Liz Baggett. "Just unbeliveable that a mother would do that. My dog weighs five pounds, not much less than that little boy."

"Ten pounds? Wow. That's just crazy," says Pace mother Jessica Jennings. "The mother should definitely be held responsible."

The boy is being treated at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. A hospital spokesman would not comment on the boy's condition. If the boy survives, he'll be placed in the custody of the Florida Department of Children and Family Services.
