TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The head of a former Civil Rights
Commission is asking the Democratic National Party to settle the
delegate fight in Florida.
Mary Frances Berry served as U.S. Commission on Civil Rights
chairwoman until 2004. She's concerned that there will be a
"bloody" battle at the August convention over the seating of
delegates from Florida and Michigan -- the two states that have
been punished by the Democratic National Committee.
The DNC declined to comment.
The DNC stripped both states of their delegates because they
violated party rules by holding presidential primaries before
February fifth. Both states are pushing to have the delegates
restored.
Berry also oversaw a federal report documenting voter
disenfranchisement during Florida's disputed 2000 presidential
election.
