MAWSS says the overflows will disappear as the flood waters recede. Crews are inspecting the system to determine where storm water entered the sanitary sewer system in order to prevent future overflows.
Bayou La Batre has also notified the Mobile County Health Department of approximately 27,900 gallons of untreated sewage that overflowed due to excessive flooding.
The Health Department says residents should take precautions when using Bayou La Batre Bayou for recreational purposes. All seafood should be thoroughly cooked and people should wash their hands after cleaning fish/seafood and before preparing food.
