Miller's Ferry volunteer firefighters met up with fellow firefighters in Spanish Fort today, to receive a very special donation.
It's been a tough month for volunteer firefighter's from Miller's Ferry.
"Well, after the tornado came through Miller's Ferry we were in that position where cleaning up as best we could without the equipment necessary to even do that really," said Chief Scott Armstrong of the Miller's Ferry Volunteer Fire Department.
Miller's Ferry was devastated earlier this month, when a tornado ripped through the small community in Wilcox County. Now, they're getting help from their neighbors to the south.
"We had replaced this truck and taken it out of service with a different vehicle and it had been our intention all along to donate it but when we heard about Miller's Ferry we immediately knew that was the department that needed it the most," explained Lillian Volunteer Firefighter Rick Russell.
The Baldwin County Fire Chief's Association came to the rescue of the Miller's Ferry Volunteer Fire Deparment today...by donating some much needed equipment, and 3 fire trucks.
"Lillian is a small community and we are very fortunate we've got a lot of good people in our community and back during Hurricane Ivan we had a lot of people come to our aide and so we know what it's like to be a small community and we were in a position to help and we just knew right away," Russell said.
"I just want to tell them how much we appreciate it and I think everybody in our department appreciates what they've did and even though it was four or five different departments we appreciate all of it that was involved in it," said Miller's Ferry volunteer firefighter Bobby Austin.
"We had no idea there were actually 3 of them here now that we were going to be able to bring home so it's kind of like country come to town and that was kind of us and all of a sudden we realized what we had and what we were going to be able to with it in the future so we were just overwhelmed," said Chief Scott Armstrong.
It's neighbor helping neighbor-- from one firefighter to another... these volunteer firefighters now have some good news to take home to Miller's Ferry... and they couldn't be happier about it.
Armstrong told News Five, "The roads are kind of clogged still with debris along the side waiting for it to be picked up but were in that idea that maybe taking the trucks and just running through Miller's Ferry and let the sirens ring and let them see what we've got we will have our own little parade in Miller's Ferry."
The Spanish Fort, Stockton, Perdido and Lillian Fire Departments all donated equipment to the Miller's Ferry Volunteer Fire Department..and fire stations in Pace, Baghdad and East Milton, Florida also helped...we're told more help may be on the way for Miller's Ferry from other departments.
