Fighting Cancer and Looking Better

When you look good, you feel better.  The American Cancer Society is making sure women going through cancer treatment have the tools and the knowledge they need to feel good about themselves.

Janie Fawcett is a hair stylist in Mobile.  She's usually working to make someone else look and feel better.  Janie was diagnosed with breast cancer in April and is going through chemotherapy treatments.  She is one of more than a dozen women to sign  up for the "Look Good, Feel Better" program at Mobile Infirmary.  It's a program offered by the American Cancer Society.

Natalie Coale heads up the program.  "It's valuable, everyday information that women who want to continue to look good and feel better about themselves need."

It's practical information on how to deal with skin changes and hair loss that often accompany cancer treatment.

While the "Look Good, Feel Better" program does involve make up, hats and wigs, there's a lot more to it.

"You get more out of it." Natalie says.  "Because you're just surrounded by others who are going through the same thing."

Janie agrees, "It makes you feel good and that's the whole bottom line is feeling good about yourself as a person and I think it's important to have that good visual that you see everyday."

Janie Fawcett's co-workers at Hairageous are holding some fundraisers to help her with medical expenses.  They're holding a raffle for a basket full of hair care products worth 250 dollars. Tickets are a dollar each. The drawing is set for August 4th and you don't have to be present to win.   They are also hosting a big garage sale on June 29th and 30th.  It'll take place at 11565 Waterford Drive in Irvington.  For more information, call the folks over at Hairageous 639-2536
