A man accused of running over and killing a little girl then leaving the scene of the accident after a Mardi Gras parade last year went on trial Tuesday. Joshua Smith is charged in the 2007 death of 5-year-old J'Lexus Lee. The accident happened on Fat Tuesday last February at the intersection of Kennedy and Congress Streets. Smith is charged with vehicular homicide because he's accused of unintentionally killing the little girl. He's also charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injury. Smith's defense attorney says his client consented to a blood test after the accident that showed he was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. We'll let you know when there is a verdict in the case.
