Ricky Spears was already wanted in connection with the disappearance of a 14-year-old girl. Deputies believe Spears picked up 14-year-old Leah Ammons April 18th from an all-night skating party in Milton.
On Saturday, investigators say Spears was at his home on Munson Highway with Ammons. When Spears' son Brandyn found the two hiding in a trailer, Spears went ballistic.According to deputies, Spears stabbed his son with a knife. After getting the knife away from his father, Brandyn grabbed Ammons and told her that her family was worried about her. His father then grabbed a pipe wrench and hit Brandyn twice on the back of the head.
Ricky Spears grabbed Ammons and ran off into the woods. Brandyn had to be taken by a life flight helicopter to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.
The Sheriff's Office is using helicopters, 4-wheelers, four K-9 teams and deputies on foot to track down Spears and Ammons. The search will continue 24-hours a day until that happens.
Spears is a 43-year-old white male, 5'10", 160 lbs., with brown hair and beown eyes. He could be driving a 1992, gold, four-door Buick, with Florida Tag I40-VUL.
If you see Spears and/or Ammons or know where they are, please call the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office at 850.983.1190. Do not approach Spears. He has a long criminal histoy, including armed robbery and burglary. In light of the attack on his son, Spears should be considered dangerous.
