Delta Airlines Adds Surcharges

carriers struggle with high jet fuel prices.
Delta, the nation's third-largest carrier, announced today it
raised domestic fares in most cases $10 to $40 per roundtrip.
The latest fuel surcharge hike covers the bulk of Atlanta-based
Delta's route system. Other airlines, including Northwest and US
Airways, said they are studying the fare increase.
A spokesman for American Airlines did not immediately respond to
an e-mail today.
Airlines have been hiking fares in recent months to deal with
rising fuel prices, spurred by oil, which currently stands at
nearly $120 a barrel.
Some fare increases have stuck, while others have not.
