"I've never heard or seen anything like it before." It was just down the street from Marie Fox's home. Crime scene tape is the only sign something deadly happened here. "Just a shock," says Fox, "we never had anything like this before it's just kind of unnerving."
In the front yard of a home on Balough Drive, the body of Charles Boylan was discovered lying face down. Investigators say he died from an obvious gun shot wound.
"We're kind of a quiet community as you might expect it has been discussed nobody really new the person personally," says neighbor Mark Johnston.
In fact, Boylan didn't live at the home, only adding to the mystery. "I don't think there's fear," says Johnston, "We're curious what the connection was at the house the person didn't live there so beyond that I say curiosity, I wouldn't describe it as fear."
Several neighbors report hearing a loud pop, something that sounded like a transformer exploding around mid-morning but didn't think anything of it. They went about their daily routine with walks, taking out the garbage. It wasn't until later in the afternoon that Boylan's body was discovered.
"I understand the letter carrier discovered him in the yard," says Johnston.
There's an uneasiness in the neighborhood now according to Fox, "This incident has kind of got all upset." Upset and looking for answers.
At first, folks at the Gulf Breeze post office thought the letter carrier was playing a cruel April Fool's joke but later learned just how serious he was.
If you know anything about this case, call the Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office.
