Some Pensacola neigbhorhoods will soon look a lot nicer. In a show of force, dozens of armed officers with the Escambia County Code Enforcement Office hit the streets of Warrington early Wednesday morning. The officers were looking for safety and health hazards...and issued warnings to property owners who violated county code."We want people to take back their communities and their neigbhorhoods," says Code Enforcement Supervisor Charlie Walker. "We want folks to have pride in where they live."
"We're looking for overgrown lots, junk cars and debris piles," says Officer Jessica Wood. "And if a homeowner or business owner doesn't answer the door, we'll leave a written warning on the front door."
In less than ten minutes, officers wrote dozens of warnings. By the end of the sweep, 135 homeowners and business owners were given written notices.
"Depending on the violation, they'll have anywhere between five and 30 days to correct the problem," says Wood.
"I'm so glad to see the out here," says Warrington resident Cindy Wenzel. "It's gotten bad here since Hurricane Ivan. A lot of renters have come in and the yards and homes here are just falling apart."
