Cox Shines In A-Day Game

Auburn quarterback Brandon Cox had a big spring game. His backups didn't fare quite so well. Cox threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Blue team to a 27-to-7 win over the White today in the A-Day game at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The Blue was led by the first-team offense and the White by the defensive starters. Cox completed passes of 30-plus yards to four different targets and threw TD passes to three -- a good sign for a team seeking playmakers at receiver. Montez Billings and Rod Smith combined for 137 yards receiving. Prechae Rodriguez had four catches for 64 yards, and tight end Gabe McKenzie set up the first touchdown with a 48-yard, over-the-shoulder catch from Cox. The Tigers are still seeking a Number 2 quarterback. Redshirt freshman Steven Ensminger had the best showing, going 9-of-11 for 77 yards and leading a TD drive. But he also threw an interception into double coverage. Blake Field was 3-for-10 for 45 yards. Redshirt freshman Neil Caudle was 2-for-8 with an interception. Cox was named offensive MVP. Michael Goggans was the defensive MVP and Matthew Motley earned special teams honors. The Tigers will have another practice at the stadium on Wednesday.
