"The old saying a picture's worth a thousand words, but video is worth a million," says Deputy Chief Randy Bishop.
Police departments across the Gulf Coast rely on dash cam video to help prosecute and convict suspects in criminal cases. Video of a crime in progress is compelling.
"Defense attorneys hate them," says Bishop. "But for us, it's a valuable tool in law enforcement. You show it to a defense attorney and a lot of times they'll want to take a plea. There's no way the video in our cameras lie."
The Foley Police Department only has four dash cams in their fleet. The cameras are old and outdated. The Foley City Council will help foot the bill. The rest of the money used to buy the cameras will come from money and items seized in drug raids.
