Extreme heat exposure can be deadly.  In fact, the Centers for Disease Control report that heat killed more people in the U.S. from 1979 to 2003, than hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, floods and earthquakes combined.  Now the inventors of Chill Factor Clothing have a cool product they believe can help.

Summer heat can be fun, but it can also be deadly.  Whether you're into outdoor sports or you work in the heat, there may be a new product for you.

Kevin Pringles is one of the founders of Chill Factor Clothing.  "If anybody has a problem with overheating and hot summer temperatures, then yea this can definitely help them out."

Kevin Pringles and his mom, Linda Cook, started the company together.  They have a line of hats they say can actually cool your body temperature.

Kevin says, "All of our products have hydro crystal technology inside.  All you do is you soak the products in water for 20 minutes the crystals will actually absorb 400 times their weight and transform into like a cooling gel so it pretty much keeps your head cool by evaporation."

These crystal beads are similar to the material found in baby diapers.  They can absorb the heat and cool your head at the same time.  Linda says, "You can actually put them in a freezer and within a coupe of minutes they'll be down to like 30 degrees."

This mother and son venture was made possible because of the Edson Entrepreneurial Program at Arizona State University.  The program provides seed money, work space and mentoring for their award recipients.

Julia Rosen explains how it works.  "The gift of this program to our students is to allow them to build their own ventures while using other people's money."

The Chill Factor Clothing line also includes neck coolers.  Rosen says, "Their product can really help not only workers, but typical consumers become more comfortable in any hot climate."

The Chill Factor Clothing line is launching this summer. They will soon be for sale on-line.  The website is still under construction, but it is expected to launch soon.  The website is www.chillfactorclothing.com
