NEW ORLEANS- The Coast Guard medevaced a 79-year-old man suffering from abdominal pains from a cruise ship, today (Monday).

A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a call at 6:11 p.m. from the captain of the cruise ship, Holiday, reporting a passenger in need of immediate medical attention. The man had complained of stomach pains and reportedly couldn't move.

The Coast Guard launched a rescue boat crew from Station Dauphin Island to assist. After bringing the man aboard, the rescue boat crew quickly and safely transported the man to Station Dauphin Island, where emergency medical personnel were waiting.

He was transported to the Mobile Infirmary West.

His condition is unknown at the time.

Someone please tell me how this works.  My father was on the cruise with Carnival Holiday on January 19th and returned on Thursday morning January 17th.  They had so many sick on his cruise how could they possible send people into contaminated suites and rooms where the bathroom water ran yellow and brown.  He said he was afraid to bath in their water after seeing everyone dropping like flies around him.

So could someone help me understand when do they sterilize the ship when they keep sending it out with people?  I am not familiar with how this works.

The Mobile Press Register said this morning that Carnival typically does not reimburse passengers for illness because viruses are brought on board by other passengers.  I’d really like to hear from them how they prove it was not contaminated water, food, kitchen utensils, non-sanitized bathrooms, etc or staff responsible for the outbreak.

I hope for the sake of the crew and the passengers now that this is not connected to the past cruise that we tried to warn the CDC about!  We just disembarked yesterday and today I am still sick with what they called a norovirus.  The number was sadly miscalculated and sickness ignored on the ship.  There was no way possible they could have cleaned after we left to get the new passengers on and what about the sick crew members that are now passing it on to the new passengers.  There were more sick than reported by carnival cruise lines and I’m sure that this is not the last of this.  There were passengers left in Cozamel when we left that had to go to the hospital and get back of their own accord.  We even backed the ship up after setting sail to let one person off that was throwing up blood.  She was sent straight to the emergency room and the ship rolled back out!  I feel for the ones that are stuck on that ship for the next 5 days!

Will the man or his insurance,or the cruise line be billed for the cost of the medevac, like the family of the teen who was killed in an accident here in mobile county?
