“You have to be careful about where they live and not step on them cause you wouldn't want nobody to do that to you,” says 5th grader Jasyme Crayton.
Mandy Marks with the Alabama Cooperative Extension Office is the guide for forest in the classroom. The kids need to pay attention to catch a glimpse of nature, like this little amphibian.
“Kids today are kind of disconnected from the woods and nature and all the technology they're involved in not a lot of kids go outside anymore,” says Mandy Marks. “The main thing we teach them is you gotta have clean air, you gotta have clean air and clean water and that's what comes from the forest.”
Classroom in the forest is a partnership between the cooperative extension and private land owners in Mobile county.
“75 to 90 percent of the wildlife in Alabama is produced in private lands in Alabama,” says landowner James Malone.
Mobile County 5th Grade teachers that are interested in taking part next year can call at 251-574-8445.

The children always love chances to get out of the classroom. This is such a good educational outing. I hope many more classes attend next year. Keep up the good work.
