The man accused of brutally killing an elderly Irvington couple, then leading officers on a day long manhunt could face the death penalty.
Aubrey Lynn Shaw, 32, is charged with two counts of capital murder. He was arrested Monday afternoon in his mother's house, next door to where the victims, Bob Gilbert, 79, and his 83 year old wife, Doris, were found dead.
"He took two lives and we've only got one to take," said Darla Furby, a close friend of the Gilberts, who says she wants to see prosecutors pursue the death penalty in this case. "He should give his life for theirs," said Furby.
Mobile County Sheriff Sam Cochran says Shaw has been in and out of jail for the last fifteen years. His arrest record shows dozens of previous burglary and robbery charges.
Monday, Cochran told News Five he believes Shaw was trying to steal money from the Gilberts when he killed them.
Shaw's bond hearing is scheduled for Wednesday morning, but District Attorney John Tyson says he expects a judge to deny the bond because this is a capital murder case.

IT IS SO SAD! NOTHING SAID OR DONE CAN BRING THESE PEOPLE BACK. WHETHER DRUGS, ALCOHOL OR JUST PLAIN HATRED, THIS MAN SHOULD PAY FOR WHAT HE DID. EVERYONE IS FEELING SORRY FOR THIS GUY BUT, HE MADE A CHOICE AND IT WAS THE WRONG CHOICE. HE NEEDS TO PAY AND HOPEFULLY HE WILL. MY HEART GOES OUT TO THE FAMILY MEMBERS AND HOPE THAT THEY CAN SOMEDAY MOVE ON WITH THEIR LIVES. HOWEVER, THE PAIN THAT IS ENDURED FROM LOSING A LOVED ONE IS NEVER FORGOTTEN. THIS MAN CHOSE TO CONSUME THE DRUGS AND HE SHOULD BE PUNISHED AND WITHOUT THE COST OF US TO SIT IN JAIL TO ENJOY THE 3 MEALS, A/C AND FREE MEDICAL EXPENSES THAT WE WILL FORK OUT. PUT HIM AWAY AND LET GOD SORT HIM OUT!!

Well, as for my comment on this, de i know you and darrell and this aint somehing to argue about; Lynn is grown and he needs to take responsibility for his OWN actions. He knew what he was doing. I WAS home when he done it and yes he did confess to the neighbors HOW do you think anyone found out? I just really feel sorry for mr.tommy; that was all he had left. I really hope Lynn gets the DEATH penalty because he does deserve it. If you knew how everything went on, you would say the same.  I whole heartly believe this is what he deserves. Rather he gets it or not , well, we will see. My brother was yalls friend also but he is deceased now.  Lynn, dd, james and randy that was the crew.

(1) First of all, to those from this site who offered prayer and sympathy to the family of Bob and Doris, I thank you. I was able to spend a brief moment with Lynn (Doris daughter) and expressed that some of you offered your condolences… She was quite touched.

(8) Lynn Shaw, I am sorry that you won’t be forced to die in the same manner in which you removed life from the Gilberts’ and forced them to die. However, I do hope the death penalty is bestowed upon you, and that you spend the rest of your eternal life in hell.

Again, thank you to those who extended prayer to the Gilbert family. The World has truly lost two of its beautiful angels.

(6) I’m shocked by the amount of “posters” on this sight who claim they knew Lynn Shaw, partied and smoked crack with him, knew of his aggressive temper, yet, never encouraged him to seek help. Some of you made comments about doing crack with him; even while he was on probation. You cast stones at the police department yet, you are the ones who failed Lynn as a true friend.

Lynn Shaw (admitted killer) was the grandson to Helen, Tommys wife. Over the years, he committed various crimes and remained a constant debtor to society. His grandmother and mother defended his action’s. Often, his crime’s when unreported. He chose it upon himself to take the lives of two dear and loved people. He not only robbed them of their lives together, he stole two precious people from their countless numbers of family and friends

(4) They loved spending their free time at their camp along the Escatawpa river. Either spending their time with family and friends, or enjoying their time alone (listening to the sounds of mother nature or enjoying the view of a beautiful sunset) it was a time they would treasure together. As the years passed, Doris slowly became dependant upon her husband, Bob. Though she was still young at heart, she had started to slowly slip into the first stage of Alzheimer. Through it all, Bob remained a loving husband.

(3) Secondly, I want to take a moment to express what kind of people the Gilberts were. Bob and Doris were a happy couple. Bob never had children. Doris had three (Lynn, Charlie, Paul). Bob accepted her children as his own. Bob had one brother, Tommy. They had two special friends, Bernell and Mary. Bob and Doris lived the simple life and saw good in every one. They were always accepting and nonjudgmental people.
