WASHINGTON (AP) - Check your cantaloupes.
The FDA is telling people to throw out any cantaloupes from a
Honduran company believed to be linked to a salmonella outbreak.
Some 50 people across 16 states and nine people in Canada have
fallen ill after eating the melons. There haven't been any deaths,
but the Food and Drug Administration says 14 people have been
hospitalized.
The government has issued an alert for melons shipped by the
company (Agropecuaria Montelibano). Grocers are advised to remove
them from their stock, while people are advised to check with
stores to see if any recently purchased cantaloupes came from
Honduras.
The FDA is also advising against purchasing or eating any
bruised or damaged cantaloupes. And it recommends discarding cut
cantaloupe if it's left at room temperature for more than two
hours.
