General Troy King is calling for an investigation of whether King
violated state campaign finance laws in the 2006 election.
A lawyer for King calls the complaint by Mark Montiel "a wild
swing" by a former opponent who is misinterpreting state campaign
laws.
Montiel is a former state appeals court judge and former
assistant state attorney general. He ran against King in the
Republican primary in June 2006 and lost by a 3-to-1 margin.
Montiel sent a letter to the state's chief election official,
Republican Secretary of State Beth Chapman. In the letter, he
questioned whether King violated campaign finance laws in the 2006
election and called for an independent investigation of the
attorney general.
