WHITE HOUSE (AP) - The White House says it feels the pain of theflying public but safety is what's most important. President Bush
will be briefed today on the troubles plaguing the airline
industry.
Thousands of flights were delayed or scrubbed last week because
of stepped-up federal inspections of jets. It was misery for
thousands of travelers.
Also, Frontier Airlines sought bankruptcy protection Friday, the
fourth carrier to do so over the past several weeks, as carriers
deal with rising fuel costs and a struggling economy that's keeping
more people on the ground.
At today's Cabinet meeting, Bush will be briefed on airline
safety, congestion and other matters affecting the industry.
