Bond has been set at $300,000 for a Baldwin County teenager charged with the murder of two bicyclists.
Patrick Ballard made his first appearance before a judge at a Wednesday afternoon bond hearing.
Prosecutors asked for the high bond.
The District Attorney also wanted special conditions if Ballard is released from the county jail.
Prosecutors say speed and alcohol lead to the crash that killed Bill Imle and Art Clemons, Jr.
The crash happened Monday morning on Bromley Road, near U.S. Highway 31.

I sure hope he hasn’t.  I believe he is a flight risk.  I hope that wkrg will continue to provide coverage of this case.  I don’t live in the area and I would like to know what happens.  I hope some sort of justice is served although nothing that happens will ever fix the damage done.

There are 2 families tonight without their daddy/husband.  Let’s please remember to keep them in our prayers.

Does anyone know if this loser made bail?

That kid deserves anything he gets in the jailhouse.

I have an idea.  If Ballard does make bail, forget house arrest and make him ride everywhere on a bicycle.

I want to know y you think bikes have no right to be on the road.  We don’t get in your way, we stay off to the side of the road, we dont pull out in front of you, and we abide by every law a car does (i.e. stopping at red lights, yielding, etc.).  SO y don’t we have a right?  And yes, i am a cyclist who rides on the ROAD! So tell me y i have to quit my sport because you think we have no right on the road.

Many are losing site of what’s important.  2 good men lost their lives tragically.  1 was a good friend, both stand-up men in the community. This isn’t a matter of cyclists sharing roads; Bill served as a Marine Corps & CG aviator.  Beyond obvious risks to his life, taken for others, success as an officer & consultant meant he paid more than enough taxes to earn a right to share the road.  His service ensured we are a country where the rule of law ensures the safety and security of ALL who live within those rules.

This “teen” made adult choices & was “enabled” to break laws/rules repeatedly!  Lock this guy up for life & ensure this NEVER happens again.  Prisons aren’t meant to rehabilitate- they are meant to punish/protect society from predators.

It’s odd this driver has killed a cyclist before - random, or intentional?

Our friend Bill has 3 children, a wife & many friends who are wondering why?  No good answer, but at least- let this be an opportunity to make sure those who flippantly ignore the rule of law, juvenile or otherwise, are not in any way enabled to repeat crimes.  This young man doesn’t need help; society needs help/protection from him!

Hey wlb,
Never ever, ever, ever say you are not smart!  “Just a Fireman”.  I disagree, you’re a Fireman (or retired) and probably a darn good one at that.  Never sell yourself short!!!!  As for cyclists, like it or not, they’re legitimate road users in all 50 states.
