Trash talking is non-stop in Conecuh County! Citizens for a Clean Southwest Alabama say they're winning the landfill fight says Jo Evers. "I believe they are becoming educated into what can happen. I believe they're concerned because they can fight this." The NO DUMP signs are all over Conecuh, Escambia and Monroe counties. Ron Shumack says it's a tough fight but one that's worth it. "We have no choice. If we had a choice, we'd quit but we don’t' have a choice cuz it's our lives." The name of the proposed 51-hundred acre dump site is Conecuh Woods and if approved, it would set up shop near Repton.

The owners have opened an office in Evergreen on McIntyre Street but tell News 5's Tiffany Craig that they still haven't set a date to file their application for a permit to open. Owner Jimmy Stone said in an interview with Tiffany last month that the landfill would be a state-of-the-art facility with jobs and money moving in. "And with our buffer zones, the impact are minimal to the neighborhood. We've designed a half mile buffer zone to minimize the offsite impact of the project." But that answer does not pacify residents like Evers. “I can’t imagine anybody that would want to live next to a landfill that just the smell alone is horrendous." Now with a team of big lawyers, the stink over garbage is getting even worse!

Part of the reason the law firm called Kennedy & Madonna took the case is because Conecuh County Commissioners plan to include a landfill vote on the February primary ballot.

Great coverage we do not need to be handling garbage from all over the country.

We don’t need this dump. All the money in the world is not worth our lives, our way of life, or the future of southwest Alabama

Tiffiany,

Maybe you can get the “quiet” supporters to speak up and tell everyone why they support this project. Hopefully it’s not for personal monetary gain, surely they wouldn’t sell the livelihood of another for money.

Tiffiany,
Thanks for your continued coverage of the Conecuh Woods project.

Although some are against this project, many in the county can see through the fear tactics of the opposition and “quietly” support the project.

Tiffiany,

It’s great to know there are TV stations and reporters that will take the time to tell a story that effects alot of people in different ways.

GREAT WORK!
