SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - An attorney for Barry Bonds says he'ssurprised the baseball slugger has been indicted on perjury and
obstruction of justice charges.
Attorney John Burris says there has been an effort to get Bonds
for a long time.
The indictment brings to an end a four-year federal
investigation into whether Bonds lied under oath to a grand jury
investigating the use of steroids by athletes.
The indictment charges Bonds with lying when he said he didn't
knowingly take steroids given to him by his personal trainer Greg
Anderson. He is also charged with lying that Anderson never
injected him with steroids.
The indictment comes three months after Bonds passed Hank Aaron
on the all-time home run list.
