Escambia County, Florida schools have increased the amount of time students will be allowed to spend time outdoors. Starting tomorrow, football practice and other outdoor activities can be held before 10:00 am and after 5:00 pm. District officials made the chnages based on a decrease in projected heat indexes.Last week, Superintendent Jim Paul canceled all outdoor activities when three football players at Tate High School in Cantonment collapsed after practice. The school district revised the ban Monday and again today to allow practice during cooler times of the day.

I think the safety and health conditions of our children are what is really important. I am also greatly concerned about the outdoor physical education classes of all students being held outside, not just students enrolled in football. Wouldn’t the ban for outdoor activities include students taking physical education also? I am not clear on this.
