Courtney Lockhart was in court Monday. His statement was read during today's court hearing. In it, Lockhart says he abducted Burk on campus, robbed her and attempted to rape the 18-year-old before he shot her. Lockhart also described setting her car on fire after the shooting.
Burk's body was found on the side of the road Tuesday night, about five miles from campus. Her burning car was found about 30 minutes later a parking lot on campus.
Auburn University is making changes to it's security because of Burk's murder. Major Melvin Owens, the school's executive director of security and public safety, said the school has increased the hours of its security shuttles and has implemented an escort service for students leaving the library.
