They arrested five women in the area of Old Pascagoula Road between Carol Plantation Road and Theodore Dawes Road.
They were charged with solicitation of prostitution.
Deputies said the arrests came as a result of an undercover sting.
Chad Tucker with the Mobile County Sheriff's Office said, "It works almost like the drug trade does. They're on the side of the street, people who are there know why they're there, they probably know who they are, they're looking for someone in particular, just as they're looking to buy a rock of crack cocaine."
People who work in the area say they're glad deputies are making arrests.
Jessica James said, "I see them every day. I see them when I come to work, when I get off work. It's just horrible."
Others who live in the area say they hope more arrests will be coming.
Janet Sullivan said, "I'm glad that they're making some arrests. I don't know if its enough. It's going to be an on-going thing. It's got to be an on-going thing or it will never, never cease."
The women who were arrested range in age from 19 to 39.
Three of them were also charged with possessing drug paraphernalia.
