Students and teachers at Spanish Fort Elementary are still adjusting to their new school environment, thanks to help from other schools and the community.

"Everyone's been great," says 4th grade teacher Kelly Knapp. "They've been bringing in things, other schools have been bringing us supplies, whatever we've asked for, we've received."

Faculty members hoped they would be back on campus and in their classrooms late this week, but News 5 has learned it could take another "month" to remove the lead paint from the contaminated school.

"It's a long process," says Terry Wilhite, spokesman for the Baldwin County Board of Education. "It's going to take several weeks, three or four perhaps because we want to be thorough."

Rockwell Elementary in Spanish Fort has "adopted" teachers at Spanish Fort Elementary.

"We've tried to get them library books, supplies whatever they need," says Rockwell principal Robbie Owen. "They're a great school and they're doing a great job considering the obstacles they're facing."

More good news to report...about 60 faculty members at the school took blood tests last week. All of the tests came back negative for lead poisoning.
