The Columbus Division of Police first received reports of gunfire at Eastland Mall at about 4:30 p.m.,
According to officers on the scene, the shooting occurred in the mall's common-area after two men started arguing with each other, Seavert reported.
The argument escalated and one man was shot in thigh, police said.
The gunman then ran through the mall as shoppers took cover,
One witness said that people were scrambling to find cover after hearing the shots.
"There was screaming and people were running. People left their food, their coats, "A lot of things left on the floor. People were screaming, scrambling and crawling on the floor. I felt like I was in a war zone."
Before assault squad detectives arrived, officers roped off an area outside the Man Alive clothing store right next to a children's playing area. But the mall remained open for shopping Saturday evening.
The shooting victim was only identified as an 18-year-old man who was transported to Grant Medical Center in stable condition,
Police said detectives were interviewing at least one person of interest in the shooting. There was no indication of any arrests being made,
