Thursday is the day about 2 million Americans
get a raise.
That's when the federal minimum wage goes up 70 cents an hour.
The raise -- from $5.85 to $6.55 per hour -- is the second of three
annual increases required by a 2007 law.
The bad news may be that higher gas and food prices will likely
swallow up that extra cash. Energy costs have soared nearly 25
percent. The price of food is up more than 5 percent.
Then again, there's always next year: that's when another hike
brings the federal minimum to $7.25 an hour.

How much is enough for a single person to exist on? What does it take to raise a child?

If you believe it hard work, piece work is probably the preferred employment. That way, you will be paid on your performance! GO for it!

LPJ1959,That’s total B.S. Are you completely illiterate? Sounds like someone wnet to coleedge for the wrong thing. And it was probably done entirely on grants. Maybe she can sue the govt because she can’t get a job in the field that the govt paid for.

I suppose tomorrow will be a huge round of lay offs. It’s not right for the govt to tell an employer how much to pay an employee. That should be based on what that indivdual brings to the table. Rewards {raises} based on merit. For those who have no desire to grow in their profession then they will continue to make little. The best incentive for more money and benefits is for one to increase their self worth. This logic escapes so many because the only reason they are there is for a check. Then congress tells them if you still can’t make it we will send you a list of entitlement programs and support you.
The reasoning behind the thought that because the minimum wage is going up, that everyone should get a raise, is the most delusional
[and union way of doing] way of doing things I’ve ever read.
Oh, and BTW this raise in min wage will most certainly be passed on to the consumer. Just something else to make the cost of everything go up some more.

I have a daughter that has a college degree and cant git a jobe doing what she went to college for. Things are hard in the work world too meney people wanting the same job. And to little jobs out there for all the people that wont it.

It wasn’t letting me post my reply, but basically, I think you have to be mentally retarded to not be able to make passing grades in public school.

Go to google and type in “famous ADD” “famous dyslexic” and “famous learning disabled” and you’ll find some links that it won’t let me post about hundreds of well known people who said “look at my ABILITY” and not “oh no i have a disability!”
