on capital murder charges was not seriously injured when he
swallowed a razor blade on purpose.
31-year-old Michael David Harrison is charged in the shooting
deaths of 32-year-old Marvin Junior Gillis and 19-year-old Tish Ann
Glennon Gillis in September of 2003.
His trial date is set for later this month. He was supposed to
attend a pretrial hearing today but was excused for "medical
reasons," The Dothan Eagle reported.
Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox said Harrison apparently
removed the blade from a safety razor given to him this weekend.
Maddox said the jailer failed to notice the missing blade when the
razor was returned.
Madison said Harrison told jail staff he had swallowed the
blade. His cellmate confirmed that, and Harrison was taken to a
local hospital. Maddox said doctors determined the blade had not
caused significant damage, and he was released.
Harrison pleaded not guilty by mental disease or defect in May
2004. His trial has been delayed twice.
