Five Alabama wildland firefighters are back home. They spent two weeks helping out in Texas. The crew used bulldozers to help contain three wildfires that threatened homes. Nine other Alabama firefighters are still working in Texas and should return home next week. The Alabama firefighters responded because of the Southern Fire Compact. It's an agreement among southern states.

According to the Alabama Forestry Commission, more than 3,500 wildfires have burned 588,945 acres in Texas so far this year.
