More choice for Alabama beer drinkers could be on the way. Alabama is one of just four states with a six percent limit on alcohol content. Some beer enthusiasts are hoping to change that law, and they have some support in the Alabama legislature. If passed, house bill 195 would raise the alcohol by volume limit on beer from six percent to 14-point-nine percent. Supporters call it the gourmet beer bill. Alcohol content is just one part of the bill. It would also change the size limit of imported bottled beers. Members of the group pushing for the change called "Free the Hops", say the restrictions just don't apply in today's market. "99 out of the top 100 beers in the world are not available in Alabama. And 99 percent of the beers crafted in the U.S. are not available in Alabama simply because of these two major restrictions." That's according to Todd Hicks, a member of "Free the Hops." House bill 195 will be considered by lawmakers in Montgomery.
