“It's nothing else like it, it's very peaceful, very quiet,” says Woodliff. “Of course at nighttime it gets real loud, frogs crickets making noise, it's two different worlds, daytime and nighttime.” One of the first sights on our trip was into alligator territory. There we were greeted in shallow water by an old gator affectionately called Popeye for his single eye.
“well, we tell people he was running with scissors but he probably lost it in a fight,” says Woodliff. “Alligators are very vicious when they fight.” 35 is old for gator standards. Despite Popeye’s slow, lethargic movements Woodliff says the reptile is still dangerous.
“Roughly 2000 pounds per square inch of bite force for an alligator this size, very strong, very very strong.” Woodliff says he gets a kick out of educating his passengers. He says he tries to engage people of all ages to learn about the delta
