They later saw signs posted warning of asbestos.
Managers said some units were undergoing renovations when the asbestos was found.
Tenants told News Five that's more information than what they got when they took their questions and concerns to their property manager.
"I would first like to talked to. I would like to be informed. I would like to know without a shadow of a doubt that my apartment is safe to live in and that the apartments that are around me that they've been doing the work in are safe," said tenant Susan Marshall.
The managers of the complex say the reason they didn't notify tenants sooner was because they were focusing on cleaning the contaminated units.
They say they've hired two companies to remove the asbestos and that no one's health is at risk.
