More Than Just Beaches

A woman comments, "Everybody's like one big happy family. We all come to the aid of each other when we're in troubled times."
A man says, "It's just a great small town. It's perfectly located."
A second woman adds, "We love Atmore. It's a great small town. We love it."
Heritage Park on Main Street celebrates the timber industry and the railroads that were a major part of early Atmore...actually called Williams Station in the 1800s.
There's a lot of art featuring the old steam engines.
And two active railroad tracks still cross right near downtown.
There are plenty of churches...including Trinity Episcopal...the oldest building in Atmore.
Main Street is still the main street...there are no big SuperCenters drawing customers away from downtown.

Small towns have a community pool...complete with morning swimming lessons and watchful moms. It part of Tom Bryne Park in Atmore, a large park south of the downtown area.
Just a stone's throw from downtown is the small, perfectly kept depot

I was so looking forward to the Atmore coverage, having lived in Atmore all my life - fifty years, but I was very disappointed to the point of sadness. I know WKRG didn’t know any better, but your selection of hometown people to interview was poor. The woman who said she raised seven children who’s from NJ hasn’t lived in NJ since she was a teenager. She detests the South, the state of Alabama, and most of all Atmore, Alabama. There are several people like myself who love Atmore which would have been a more interesting interview. I wish they had been available.
