ALDOT haulted construction on a new Highway 98 bypass through Mobile nearly four months ago after environmentalists complained run-off was contaminating Mobile's main drinking water supply.
In the latest move to rectify the complaints, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management may slap ALDOT with a $75,000 fine and order the removal of sediment and other pollutants.
This week, ADEM issued an Administrative Order to ALDOT for "violations of environmental regulations during construction activities," according to a press release to News 5.
ADEM has announced a public comment period regarding the order beginning January 2nd through February 1st.
