Legislature today, the first day of the regular session:
HOUSE
-Speaker Seth Hammett administered the oath of office to new
Rep. James Fields, D-Cullman.
-Passed a resolution asking Alabama Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb
to address a joint session of the Legislature at 4 p.m. Feb. 12.
Goes to Senate.
-Passed a resolution commending the family of the late business
magnate Wynton "Red" Blount for donating his Montgomery mansion
and surrounding land to the state of Alabama. Goes to Senate.
SENATE
-Passed a resolution along party lines that sets out security
provisions when a senator hits someone in the Statehouse in the
future.
-Received a report from the Senate Committee on Assignments,
saying it had taken Sen. Charles Bishop, R-Jasper, off several
Senate committees after he hit another senator.
-Passed resolutions expressing sympathy to Sen. Jim Preuitt,
D-Talladega, over the death of his grandson and Sen. Ben Brooks,
R-Mobile, over the death of his father.
AGENDA
-House Judiciary Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday in room 123
in the Alabama Statehouse to discuss amending the state ethics law
to change the definition of a lobbyist to include persons
attempting to influence no bid contracts.
-House Constitution and Elections Committee meets at 9 a.m.
Wednesday in room 603 to consider bill banning practice of
transfering campaign donations from one political action committee
to another.
-House Government Operations Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday
in room 622.
-House Education Appropriations Committee meets at 9 a.m.
Wednesday in room 617.
-House Public Safety Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday in room
602 to consider bill to make it crime to not properly tie down
steel coils on trucks and cause them to fall onto public roads.
-House Commerce Committee meets at 9 a.m. Wednesday in room 621.
-House Health Committee meets at 10 a.m. Wednesday in room 128.
-House Banking and Insurance Committee meets at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday in room 621.
-House Committee on County and Municipal Government meets at
1:30 p.m. Wednesday in room 622.
-House Education Policy Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday
in room 602.
-House Government Appropriations Committee meets at 1:30 p.m.
Wednesday in room 617 to consider bill to establish "rainy day"
savings account for General Fund budget.
-Senate Finance and Taxation-General Fund Committee meets at 10
a.m. Wednesday in room 727 to consider a pay raise for prison
officers.
-Senate Tourism and Marketing Committee meets at 1 p.m.
Wednesday in room 727 to consider Sunday liquor legislation.
-Senate Judiciary Committee meets at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in room
727 to consider a bill increasing the amount of liability insurance
that motorists must carry.
-Senate Governmental Affairs Committee meets at 2:30 p.m.
Wednesday in room 727.
-House meets at 4 p.m. Wednesday and Senate at 4:30 p.m.
-House and Senate hold a joint session at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to
hear the governor's State of the State address.
