MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - The Alabama Senate has passed a bill
that would ban smoking in most public places in the state,
including workplaces, restaurants and athletic events.
The bill passed the Senate 28-3 Wednesday and now goes to the
House. A similar statewide smoking ban was approved Wednesday
morning by the House Government Operations committee on a voice
vote.
The American Cancer Society says 26 states currently have some
sort of smoke-free statewide law.
The Senate bill is sponsored by Sen. Vivian Davis Figures of
Mobile, who suffers from bronchitis and asthma and has been
fighting for a statewide smoking ban for more than 10 years. In the
House, the legislation is being pushed by equally passionate Rep.
Mary Sue McClurkin of Pelham, who has survived bouts with breast
and thyroid cancer.

once they stamp out smoking they will vote themselves another pay raise.  After that they will come up with a new tax to pay for it.  Way to go!!!!!!!!!!

Nicotine, the drug that is so insidious that addicts can not stop. When faced with a one in a million possibility that exposure to the smoke MIGHT cause damage to their beloved children, they can not stop. No, not that they can’t stop exposing those innocent children, they WON’T.  That is what addiction to nicotine does. Addicts rationalize their behavior and make excuses.

Good parents are aware of evidence and protect their children from danger. What kind of parent are you?

I remember when this happened on Seinfeld and Kramer started a smoking lounge in his apartment.  He turned yellow after 3 days and it was a terrible sight!!!!!!

Look folks, I’m not saying I agree with everything our government tries to do.  Some of you say that if they hate smoking so much that they should ban it completely.  I couldn’t agree more with that sentiment.  The problem is that nobody in government can figure out how to subsidize the income of all the tobacco farmers and the would be unemployed cigarette factory workers.  And if you think that an answer rests somewhere with the 3 idiots running for President, you’re more delusional than those who don’t believe that second smoke is dangerous.  It’s a big problem.  If our government knew 100 years ago what the dangers of smoking were, I submit it would have never been legal.  Ban somking across the country?  You bet!!!  Publicly flog and or execute drunk drivers? Absolutely!!

This is not an easy issue for government to deal with.  However, our elected officials represent us.  You should all definitely let your representitives know how you feel.

WorkingforU, would you like to see a hospital report that shows where a child had to be put on a ventilator due to inhaling second hand smoke?  I have one that I would be more than happy to send out.

Almost was afraid to open that web link for fear I may catch a virus or something.

O yea I guess banning website links will be next.

Kinda like all of the Global warning websites. Reviewed the sources and not one source listed a practicing doctor that has verifiable proof that a person died of second hand cigarette smoke. I did not see md/phd at all. Just names of institutes, polls/studies and “nobodys” as usual.

Kinda like the same kind of information we get on the warnings of global warming.

Every time you turn around something is going to kill you. Lets just ban everything.

Wonders why Philip Morris was compelled to pay off the public for illnesses and deaths their tobacco caused? The American Lung Association is a sham and so is the EPA. How can there be so many stupid people in this world who happen to be smokers? Oh, wait, addicts will rationalize anything.

Maybe you should sue them for slander and libel, they are ruining your good name.

I am not better, I just do not want your choice of death to affect me. Inhale deep and keep it to yourself.

southfan-You cannot, will not or be able, even if you were a doctor, to come up with one person’s name thats cause of death from second hand cigarette smoke. It has been proven that it MAY effect non-smokers in a negative way(kinda like trans fat) but by no means can I recall any human proven dead from breathing second hand cigarette smoke. You are more likely to die of breathing car exhaust and hair spray toxins and household mold than cigarette smoke.

Can cigarette smoke be bothersome? Yes, for some. Loud perfume bothers me. So does body odor. Mold and mildew is what I worry about. Cigarette smoke does not bother me and I can care less because I am not a smoker. I just hate to see peoples rights and privliges dwendle away by such a hoax.

I guess you beleive in global warming too.

So get over your rightious, I am better than you attitude and be real.
