CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities in West Virginia say oneperson has died after a severe thunderstorm caused a school gym to
collapse during a wake.
McDowell County Office of Emergency Management shift supervisor
Allen Archer says the collapse occurred at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at
the Twin Branch Christian Academy in the southwest West Virginia
town of Davy.
Archer says he has no other information on the woman who was
killed. He says there were no other injuries.
Severe thunderstorms blew through the state, knocking out power
to at least 83,000 customers.
Meanwhile, fierce winds and thunderstorms lashed Kentucky,
causing new outages for at least 120,000 customers in a state still
recovering from a late January ice storm.
